In the Band

They marched in parades you watched when you were small,
You saw them at football games standing up tall,
That gargantuan sound that could blow you away,
Gold horns and big bass drums!
You just knew one day,
That you wanted to be in the band,
In the band, in the band,
In your very own Senior High Band.

You're not the same this year, there's something that's new.
You're much more mature in the things that you do.
Get home late from practice and quickly get fed,
Then turn off the TV(!), do homework instead,
And perhaps its 'cause you're in the band!
In the band, in the band,
In your very own Senior High Band.

In your very own Senior High Band. Holst and Stravinsky, Mozart, Grainger, Ives,
When playing this music, you are so alive.
Weeks of getting ready, then comes concert night,
Its wonderful music, you play it just right,
And you're so glad that you're in the band!
In the band, in the band,
In your very own Senior High Band.

Go back to school early a'marching all day,
And its not just marching, they want you to play.
Its wet when its raining, still damp when its not,
And when its not raining, its oh so darn hot,
That you wish that you weren't in the band!
In the band, in the band,
In your very own Senior High Band.

Its more than a class or just something to do,
The other band members depend upon you,
So you've got to be there, without you its wrong.
You're in this together, its here you belong,
And you're part of a really great band!
A great band, a great band,
Your great very own Senior High Band.
